When Old Earth began to falter, they made a plan. Divide the luckiest of the current population into two ships. One shot off into space for a habitable planet in the Proxima Centauri system. The Station remained orbiting Earth, waiting to see if conditions change without human interference, occasionally dipping down to the planet for resources.
In this environment, resources are limited. Leading people to do desperate things.
